The Path Evocator, 2008, Acrylic, colored pencil and collage on paper, 14 by 42 inches
This painting was inspired by my trip to Istanbul and Bursa in Turkey this past spring. Reading from right to left it is a narrative piece about that experience and about a specific path taken spiritually within myself. Starting on the right with a swooping green inspired Ottoman shape, the man who has just stepped through that space is my husband. Being of that land, that ancient, evocative and intoxicating world that it is he assumes a calm relaxed pose, one which is natural and so then he gracefully is blending into his environment. I am represented by the central woman and as it is the most visual of trips I have ever been on I am equipped with enormous sunglasses, they are reflecting the intense colors surrounding me. I am facing a stoic monument like form of the brightest pink which is representing our relationship, solid and alive. This Path, our path has wind and breadth here to keep it fluid and alive along with the cultural nourishment constantly enriching it.
