Lower East Side New York Artist Painter Micci Cohan

Contemporary Art Painting by Micci Cohan - New York City

" My paintings and drawings are looking glasses into the portals of my existence. I was born with a strong need to paint my world, make it visible, tangible, and surround myself with it, learn by it, and share it. At a very young age this need incubated and grew out of a deep knowing that words, point blank, would never be enough for me to express with. When I am not making art there is a real distinct kind of restlessness inside of me; when I am making art, I’m fleeing that feeling and soaring to the highest peak I could go to, where infinite freedom lays its head down solid and a myriad of passions coexist and fly out from my soul. It is the time I feel most alive with every vein pulsating in harmony. Creativity is my euphoric love affair; it is a self imposed vow, a dedication, a stampede to every vital core. It means the quest to know and understand myself better, a way by which I can communicate by using a language that is all my own. I empty out to fill up again, I go to a place where I meet myself and I dance the eternal dance.

All that I behold beautiful and enlightening in this world, all my experiences, travels, and everything which ignites my spirit and inspires me, becomes stirred into one celebrated brew, and then sifts through on to the paper or canvas. Faces interest me greatly, the characteristics and arts of various cultures, music, fashion, art history, the great artists of the past as well as the present. While I’m painting emotions run free and an immeasurable focus takes its grip and I begin to conduct and express with the paint an intrinsic song of lines, colors and forms. I thrive on the process of creating; the most important thing has always been the journey itself for it is during the journey the gates are unlocked and only the purest of truths flood out."
